Community
Emmet is a community of contributors who are working collaboratively to record the history of human relationships. We treat each other with respect and work toward the common good. Be nice. Don't steal. Tell the truth.
Be a Good Citizen
In the spirit of Emmet's connection with the past, here's some sage advice from our ancestors: "Treat others as you would like to be treated." The strength of our community lies in our respect for one another, and in the assumption that our fellow community members are acting in good faith.
Great Contributions Are
...Truthful
Relationship stories are inevitably subjective, and are often not verifiable. It's extremely important, therefore, that all of our contributors strive to be truthful in their contributions. You must have a good faith belief that your story is true. Indicate your source in the reference section of the article, whether it's a first-hand recollection, your grandmother told you, or a reputable citation to a published work.
...Of the Past
None of us is objective about our current state (witness the thousands of "friends" on Facebook and MySpace). Please focus your contributions on relationships and events that predate 1970. The filter of time will help to ensure a degree of objectivity about the enduring significance of the relationship.
...Freely Distributable
The content you publish on Emmet must be freely distributable. There are three ways to achieve that: It's your original work and you grant Emmet license to use it, or it's available under a GFDL or CC-SA license, or it's in the public domain. Please be sure of the legal status of the content before publishing it on Emmet. If you don't know, don't publish.
Represent Yourself Honestly
Please disclose any conflicts of interest or special relationship you may have to the people you are writing about, even when contributing anonymously. Don't pretend to be someone you're not.
Improve the Content
Our community is self-policing, so please do correct errors, fix typos, smooth out awkward sentences. Content that isn’t constructive runs the risk of being edited or removed.
This community absolutely won't accept content that is:
harmful, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, unlawful, tortious, or racially, ethically or otherwise objectionable
threatening, abusive, harassing, hateful, or invasive of another’s privacy
harmful to minors in any way
spam
If you see this kind of content, please report it immediately to the site administrators and remove it from the page.
Resolve Disputes Respectfully
People are messy, their stories are messy, and contributors will disagree. Don't Panic. Well-behaved disagreements are fertile ground for arriving at the truth, and an article can accommodate multiple points of view. Make respectful, informed comments and edits. Contact site administrators if you feel a dispute needs moderation.
